Warming Up for the Final

UNDER 13 DIV 1 GRAND FINAL MATCH REPORT
The Sun shone brightly, a game was played, and a Trophy held aloft - it was a great day
After two runners up trophies in 2008 and 2009, "the boys in blue", after a superb game of football against a well drilled Runaway Bay outfit, ran out victors 1-0. Runaway Bay threw everything they had at the boys who stood tall and repelled every attacking raid. Played in hot draining conditions the Palmy Boys did their loyal and enthusiastic supporters proud as they slowly but surely made the game theirs after the scores were locked at nil all well into the second half.
With only minutes remaining a well taken far post corner from Dylan (Noodles) Yuill was met by a puposeful header from Dan, the Rock, Robinson, who had slid up from his Centre Back position for his date with destiny, as the ball hit the net and the cheers from the stand were deafening. Runaway Bay quickly altered their attack in an attempt to gain that equaliser, but the Palm Beach defence could not be penetrated as their heart and commitment were not to be denied. With the sound of the final whistle, tears began to flow from more than one or two of the dedicated Soccer Mums at the realisation of a dream and a job well done.
Special mention must go to the Runaway Bay Team and Coaching Staff who showed just what spirit Football should be played. They are a credit to themselves, their club and a shining example to all football followers.
It was simply wonderful to see that after a hard fought match the two teams were as one as they jogged across and thanked the crowd for their support - and of course were well received with the cheers they all so richly deserved.
15 boys from different schools, with different likes and dislikes, but all with one dream to hold the cup aloft and be as one as the "Boys In Blue" shout ....GO PALMY !!
It has been a privilege to coach this group of boys over the past two years and I am sure they will all go on to bigger and better things in the years ahead at Palmy, where 'Junior become Seniors'.
